past the 3 class trial period.

Dues

$45.00 per month with a 90 day Letter of Commitment. Continued enrollment requires a three month
commitment every 90 days. If you prefer to waive the 90 day Letter of Commitment, the cost is $55.00 per month. Family Discounts are available for families who enroll three or more family members. At enrollment, an additional $10.00 will also be collected for the first year's membership in the International Isshin-Ryu Karate Association (I.I.K.A).

Dress Code

A karate uniform (Gi) is not required for beginning students, but should be purchased eventually.
If you do not have a Gi, wear loose-fitting clothing that will allow you to move freely during class (sweatpants, t-shirt etc). Gi's and other equipment can be ordered by the school. Items are provided at cost plus shipping and handling. If you already have a Gi or want to purchase one elsewhere, that is acceptable. Only traditional black or white karate gi's are allowed.

Other Equipment

As with most other Isshin-ryu dojos, the Roane School of Isshin-Ryu has its own distinct patch.
Cost of the patch is $5.00. You may also purchase a Mizu-Gami patch (Isshin-Ryu system patch) from the school for a nominal cost. Having a patch on your gi is required. The location on the school patch is to be located on the student's right shoulder of the gi. The Mizu-Gami patch is to be located over the left side of the chest (over the heart).
All Students MUST HAVE A GROIN CUP AND MOUTHGUARD in order to be allowed to kumite.
The school has some extra kumite equipment for student use until students chose to purchase gear. Equipment that is mandatory for kumite and tournament competition is as follows:
    Groin Cup.
    Mouth Piece.
Foam feet that cover the entire foot.
Foam Hands that do not expose fingers
    Foam Head gear

All of the above equipment can be purchase from the school at cost.
You may also purchase gear elsewhere if you so choose as long as it is compliant with the rules and regulations of the I.I.K.A. for tournament competition.

Three paperback books provide excellent reference materials and are highly recommended. They are
the Dynamics of Isshin-Ryu Karate, books 1-3 by Grandmaster Harold Long and Alan Wheeler. It is suggested that beginning students purchase the first book as it is designed with the white and orange belt student in mind. The books are available from many sources at a cost of about $7.95 each.
